Ecoplast Ltd. (Ep) is India's most respected and one of the largest suppliers of Multilayer(3-layer) co-extruded polyethylene and Co-polymer films to the Flexible packaging industry and a variety of other specialty applications, developed over the years.

Ep has had a major role in the development of the Flexible Packaging industry in India; this industry uses multi layer polyethylene and co-polymer films for laminating to one or more substrates, such as polyester film, Polypropylene film, often in combinations with aluminum foil and/or paper, depending upon the packaging system. The multilayer film forms the inner most layer-the heat seal layer-of the laminate, which is in contact with the packed product.

The annual production capacity of multilayer film is Installed 9280MT, with a turnover of approximately Rs.660 million for the year ended March 2011.

Ep was incorporated on 7th May 1981 as a private limited company. By offering its shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange, to finance a major expansion Ep became a public limited company,in November.

1982-1993:

a:
Ep is the first Company in/India to provide multilayer blown films for lamination to replace cast mono layer films, with significant advantages in the packaging process,bond strengths in lamination and significantly better mechanical properties.

b:
Nestle's MAGGI brands standardized on Ep films integral with the laminate.

C:
Proctor & Gamble approves a high moisture barrier film for high speed vertical FFS packaging of Vicks Vapodrops

d:
Cadbury india approves a high abrasion resistance film integral with the paper laminate for Bournvita on a Cekatainer Swedish packaging system.

e:
Ep becomes the first approved supplier of lami-tube films to Essel Propack Ltd.

f:
Film for an 8ml shampoo sachet packed on a 5 track Hassia packaging line was developed for Hindustan Unbeliever.Films for shampoo packaging remain as one of the largest application for Ep films.

1994-2003

a:
Ep is recognized as one of the largest supplier of film for packaged refined salt for state-of-the packaging lines from Bosch and Rovema, Germany.

b:
Ep becomes the largest supplier of films integral with the laminate to the high quality segment of the market covering large Indian Corporates and Multinational Corporations in food,beverage,confectionary, bakery, detergent, personal products,and pharmaceuticals.

c:
Ep exports films for lamination to UAE and Oman. Export volumes rapidly increase based on customer's recogniton on quality, service and price as comared to European suppliers.

d:
Significant development work over two years results in Tetrapack Converting india accepting Ep films for lamination with paper and foil. Ep becomes a dominant supplier in comparison with foreign suppliers of film to Tetrapck.

e:
Ep receives an export award from PLEXCOUNCIL - Ministry of Commerce and industry for two consecutive years for record export volumes of multi layer films.

2003 onwards:

a:
Ep develops a film for lamination to PVDC coated PVC sheet for blister packaging for the pharmaceutical industry. The films is accepted by the same Company for export to Singapore.

b:
Ep qualifies for ISO 9001-2000 certification

c:
Ep develops a unique process for manufacture of Polyamide(Nylon) film by the 'blown film process' and files a patent.

d:
Ep develops a multilayer film for depositing aluminum by the vaum metalising process for agriculture mulch

e:
Ep develops a thermally active film for bonding various substrates for the automobile industry, manufactures of aluminum composite panels, shoe uppers and high altitude thermal garments.

f:
Ep develops and commercially produces adhesive coated peelable Surface Protection Film-'Ecogurad'. These films find application for protection and scratch resistance for polished stainless steel sheets, aluminum composite panels,acrylic and polycarbonate sheets,decorative laminates,marble and floor files

g:
Ep gets certified fo ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System.

h:
Ep installs a protective film manufacturing plant capable of coating rubber based, solvent based and water based adhesives along with a printing and lamination plant.

3.Quality Standards:

Film quality developed, based on a given set of performance standards generally accepted the customer and the ultimate end user. Quality standards are documented in the form of a quality policy, quality objectives and procedures, carried out throughout the organization starting with raw material procurement to final testing of the product and its verification before shipment to the customer.

Ep has a well equipped laboratory and a wide range of testing equipment to resolve almost all quality and technical issues that may be raised by a customer.

4.Technical Service:

In a multi layer film the polymer, the equipment and the process variables combined, determine the level of crystallinity and orientation and in turn the resulting properties.The design of a multilayer film structure is based on per-determinded performance characteristics for:

• The film/product compatibility 
• The lamination process 
• Heat seal characteristics tha matches the requirements of the packaging line 
• Storage (shelf life,) handling and transportation conditions.

Based on the results of the evaluation, the film specifications are recorded, a product code for that specific structure, for reference for all future film supplies.
